Getting Hydrated

Good morning. I’m getting so excited for my race tomorrow night that I can’t really think of anything else to blog about. πŸ™‚ Does everyone get this excited before a race? It is my first, so I have an excuse, right? LOL

The weather forecast is showing 91 degrees for a high, so the race will be pretty warm. In preparation, I’m going to make myself drink all the water I’m supposed to drink for the next two days. I’ve still been struggling to drink more water and keep hydrated, now that it’s summer.

I filled this baby up this morning and I want to drink at least 4 of them while I’m at work today and tomorrow. I think it’s about 10-12 ounces, so that should be good. Right?

So I’m really excited for the race tomorrow, but I have to admit that I’m nervous too. I’m not really nervous about running the 4 miles, but I’m more nervous about being in the race on my own. I’m definitely the type of person that likes to have a “buddy” or bring a friend along when I’m doing something new. I tend to get a little anxious when I don’t have someone to stand with me; like people are judging me or think I’m a loser for being alone. Probably irrational, since I’ve never thought that about anyone who was by themselves. In fact, I’ve always been a little jealous of people at concerts alone who are totally comfortable standing there watching a band. There have been so many concerts I’ve wanted to go to, but didn’t because I didn’t have someone to come with me.

Along with wanting a new physical challenge, I’m using this as a mental challenge as well. I’m totally nervous to stand in the crowd of people who have probably run races before, while I stand there alone and don’t know what to expect.

I hope I don’t sound like a crazy person, but this is honestly how I feel. I really want to prove to myself that I can do something totally new on my own without someone there to make me feel ok.

Well, sorry that I just got a little serious. I didn’t think I could talk about the race without bringing up my true feelings. πŸ™‚

The warm weather has been making me crave cereal and cold (almond) milk for breakfast every morning the past couple of weeks. I’ve noticed though that cereal doesn’t always keep me full. Today I decided to make a nice hearty breakfast sandwich, just to change things up. Used a whole wheat pita, Colby Jack cheese and a fried egg.

I love these Joseph’s pitas. Only 80 calories. Woohoo!

Eggy, cheesy, goodness. Mmm.

Almond Milk= Hydration + Calcium + Protein. Win!

Have a great day!

Do you get anxious doing new things on your own?

What breakfasts have you been eating lately?

  1. Hey Steph,

Good luck with your race! πŸ™‚ As for breakfast, I’ve been obsessed with this new recipe that I found: I’ve been tweaking it because 1/4 of a cup of oatmeal is not going to cut it for me since I am normally a starving animal in the morning. The Nikki version is:

    1/2 cup of oatmeal
    1 cup of almond milk
1/2 tbsp of chia seeds (weird ingredient but they’re high in omega 3)
1/4 cup of frozen mixed berries
    5 drops of liquid stevia
Dash of vanilla extra and cinnamon

It ends up being around 275 cals with 6.5 grams of fat; it’s really delicious and so freaking easy to make. I tried making a protein powder version of it last night and it came out decent (same ingredients minus the berries, vanilla, and cinnamon and then I added 1/2 scoop of chocolate peanut butter protein powder). Miss you!

    • Hi Nikki! πŸ™‚
Thank you- I wish it weren’t so hot today, but I think the race will still go well πŸ™‚ I’ve made some overnight oats similar to this before and I love chia seeds! I’ve never used Stevia though- I should definitely get some. Your protein powder recipe is good too! Miss you!! Come visit!
